Path Through the Atacama
The Heart of the Atacama
Where the Andes Touch the Sky
Exploring the Atacama Desert was an incredible and almost otherworldly experience. The landscapes are huge and quiet but full of little details that make every step feel like discovering something new. I was blown away by Piedras Rojas, with its red rocks against the bright blue skies, and the beauty of Lagunas Miñiques and Miscanti at high altitude. It all felt surreal. If you are staying in San Pedro de Atacama, take it easy. Driving a car there is crazy. The traffic is chaotic, the signage is confusing, and I actually could not make it to the geysers because I got a flat tire. It is really better to just walk around town at your own pace. Make sure you have a plan to communicate in Spanish, either you speak it, a friend speaks it, or you find someone who knows someone, because it can make a huge difference. Do not miss an astrophotography tour. Seeing the night sky here is unforgettable. Take your time to soak in the desert. Walking around the lagoons and rock formations gives you a chance to really appreciate the colors, textures, and the sense of space. Bring warm clothes even during the day and try to visit early in the morning or late afternoon for the best light. The Atacama Desert surprised me with its raw beauty, the peacefulness of these remote landscapes, and the incredible contrasts of colors and textures. This series of photos is a little glimpse of that feeling and the unforgettable places I got to see.
